Lesson 4 | Entering in Values (4:11 minutes)
Entering in Values
Now let's discuss values. Now you have your Discovery Insight Workbook, you flip to the values section and you have the client's responses to the values and right here in the application and you click on values, it opens up the values forms. As a reminder you can jump through the breadcrumbs if you wanna go back to the client page or back to the main Anderson family page but here we are in values. So what we do is we click on New Value and the application opens up right to a section where you can type in the value. Now we have all of the values that are on the cards or the paper exercise right here in the application. So, for instance, you can type in family and it will bring you right to one of the values. And then the definition comes up automatically that is in the exercise, that's on the cards. Now, during your discussion, if the client defines the value, you can enter additional information into that and just type in, in these open boxes, it works just like Word, you can type the information in, you can bold any information you want but that's the definition that's there to have a happy and loving family.
And then the really most valuable part of this whole exercise is where is it showing up in their life? In some cases, they may say it's not and this is something we value and we need to start living this value. In other situations, they may say that we have weekly family dinners where we discuss our weekly events ... And then you can add as much information in there, whatever that individual has added and responded. And you go up to the upper left hand corner, click Save and now you have your list of values. You can click New Value and we can add another value in here of education. Click Education. Pursuing intellectual endeavors and gaining knowledge. We have created a college fund for all of our children and we want to create the same for grandchildren. So, this situation, they've ... where it's showing up in their life and where it's going to continue showing up in their life. They click Save and now you have their values there. Typically, it's about somewhere between 4 and 6 values. Most cases, we ask individuals to get to their top 5 values and then here you can drag and drop and put them in any order you'd like to. So we've added 2 into the application here and then we can go down to the Reports section. We can go to the Value Profile and click View. The application's generating the Values Report. Then we click on the Values Report and it'll pop up here in a second and it will show you for the Anderson family education, where we put that first. It has the definition and then in bold here, it describes where it's showing up in their life. Amazing report, very valuable for starting out doing planning with the family. It is something that you can do for multi-generational planning, where you can do this exercise with your children and creating them into the application.
Amazing report and where you're going to see the most value is helping a person live these values through making decisions where their financial situation is impacting those, which in many cases, their financial positions and their relationship to their wealth really impacts their values. So that's the Values Profiles section.
